At first glance he is nothing more than a sprightly older gentleman with a penchant for welding. Upon closer acquaintance however, one discovers his neurotic and not just a bit unwieldy tendencies. He bounces from one notion to the next with an endless reservoir of energy, dragging those around him in his wake of enthusiasm. For the past year he has been tenaciously preoccupied with developing a compound that is rumored to cure any malady: the “perfect potion.”

The Artist: How Being Covered in Blood and Sand Landed Me a Job

Why, hello there. My name's Amanda Carman, but I am known as Carman to most (not a military or standoffish thing; I am too much of a noodle to be in the military or to pull off standoffish. It simply suits me better). I do the art and formatting for Re:Medy, and I could not wish for a more talented and friendly partner than Lyndsay.

I had the pleasure of meeting Lyndsay during a production of Twelfth Night at our college. We hit it off pretty well from the start, but we weren't able to see much of each other outside the theatre.

Fast forward three years. I am performing in Hecuba as a last-minute replacement for a cast member who fell ill and could no longer perform. Lyndsay has come back to visit the theatre and see the play. Afterwards, she hangs around backstage to wait for all of us to finish removing the copious amounts of fake blood and sand that covered our bodies and she overhears an enthusiastic discussion that my good friend Stevie and I are having about graphic novels.

"Graphic novels?" she said. "I'm writing one of those! We need an artist, though."

"An artist?" I gibber. "I'm an artist! I art...things!"

After a lot of excitable talking at each other, Lyndsay sent me the script for the first issue to see if I'd be interested in the story. And guys, I am interested in the story. I am EXTREMELY picky about storytelling. Not genre or subject matter, but the actual act of telling a story. And Lyndsay can tell a story. Her characters are so engaging that, after having drawn them at least 200 times a piece (and still counting), I still want to draw more of them. It was very easy for me to see the images she wrote, which is invaluable to me as an artist.

I am so excited to share these characters and their stories with the world, and helping to bring them to life has been a very rewarding experience.

Greetings and Salutations:

You’ve met our story, so now I suppose is as good a time as any to meet the author. My name is Lyndsay and I’m the one spearheading the characterization, dialogue, and plot of Re:Medy. I am overjoyed to be partnering with my “right hand lady” and multi-talented artist, Amanda. She is a gifted writer herself and certainly keeps me honest and on task within the story.

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, with one or two projects in their final editing phase, and finally decided to tackle the idea of a graphic novel. Why? Because Re:Medy couldn’t be told any other way - and I really wanted to meet the Professor! Who is the Professor you ask? Well, wouldn’t you like to know….

It will suffice to say, that I am positive you will be more interested in meeting and learning about our cast in Re:Medy, and I wouldn’t blame you. Re:Medy: An Introduction

"The restaurant door chimes…and in walks a sprightly older gentleman, a dashing rogue, a scruffy wanderer, and a fully outfitted soldier. Throw these strangers together with an overly-ambitious woman, and you have the cast to an outrageous journey saga."

Welcome to the world of Re:Medy.

The story evolved as a result of some character creation I was doing with a friend of mine. (Thanks James!) Once the characters were in place, a world was built. Once the world was built, the characters traveled. As the characters traveled, conflict arose, and hence you have the very skeletal understanding of how it all began.

Ecclasia, the world where the story of Re:Medy takes place, is a co-creation of myself and my good friend James. Thanks to many middle of the night conferences, several emails, and snatch texts here and there, it grew into a fully functional universe full of its own history and life. –But of course, we’ll save most of that for later.

Our story begins in the little town of Charlotte’s Grove where no-nonsense female, Avrey Bridgestone, is working her summer job. (More on Avrey later.) When disaster strikes within her restaurant, she is grudgingly thrown together with our four male leads. After only a short period of 24 hours Avrey finds herself with problems beyond her imagination, and with no choice but to rely on the slightly deranged professor and his recipe for the “perfect potion.”
